Karbi Anglong Council Grants Free Land Titles to Thousands of Indigenous Families

The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) has begun distributing free land pattas to thousands of indigenous families in West Karbi Anglong district. Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang led the initiative, aiming to provide legal ownership to residents who have long lived on ancestral land without formal documents. The move is part of a broader effort to ensure no indigenous family remains landless. During a recent event in Hamren constituency, around 2,500 ethnic families received land pattas. Ronghang announced plans to distribute over 8 lakh such documents across all 26 council constituencies. The goal is to strengthen social and economic security for local communities.

The council is also focusing on improving infrastructure in remote areas. Tenders have been invited for constructing new roads in West Karbi Anglong's interior regions, aiming to boost connectivity.

Education remains another key priority. To address staff shortages, KAAC has opened around 1,000 teaching positions in primary and secondary schools. The recruitment drive seeks to strengthen the region's education system and fill long-standing vacancies. The distribution of land pattas provides legal recognition to families living on ancestral land. With new road projects underway and teaching posts being filled, KAAC is working to improve both infrastructure and education in Karbi Anglong. The council's efforts target long-term development for the region's indigenous communities.
