Kampi Components Secures CMMC Level 2 After Rigorous Cybersecurity Overhaul
Kampi Components has achieved CMMC Level 2 certification, a key requirement for securing U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) contracts. The certification confirms compliance with NIST 800-171 standards for protecting controlled unclassified information (CUI). CyberSheath, a specialist in CMMC-managed services, played a central role in guiding the company through the process.
The journey began after an unannounced DIBCAC High assessment uncovered compliance gaps. Kampi then partnered with CyberSheath to address these issues and meet the strict cybersecurity demands of the certification.
The path to certification started with an unplanned DIBCAC High assessment, which revealed areas where Kampi fell short of cybersecurity requirements. To close these gaps, the company turned to CyberSheath, a CMMC-managed service provider with a track record in compliance support.
CyberSheath’s initial gap assessment closely matched the DIBCAC findings, offering a clear roadmap for compliance. One major challenge involved multiple managed service providers, several of which were not meeting necessary cybersecurity standards. The partnership focused on aligning all external vendors—including cloud providers—with NIST SP 800-171 requirements and FedRAMP Moderate authorisation for handling CUI in the cloud. The certification process was overseen by Cybersec Investments, a Certified Third-Party Assessor Organization (C3PAO). Meanwhile, CyberSheath demonstrated its own expertise in October by partnering with CIS Secure to complete a CMMC Level 2 assessment, achieving a perfect score of 110. This success reinforced Kampi’s confidence in CyberSheath’s ability to guide them through compliance. Ongoing managed support from CyberSheath ensured Kampi maintained the necessary controls. The final certification audit, conducted by an unspecified C3PAO, confirmed Kampi’s compliance with CMMC Level 2 standards. This certification now positions the company to compete for DOD contracts requiring this level of cybersecurity assurance.
Kampi Components now holds CMMC Level 2 certification, meeting the DOD’s cybersecurity requirements for handling controlled unclassified information. The achievement follows a structured partnership with CyberSheath, which addressed compliance gaps and aligned external providers with strict standards. The certification opens doors for Kampi to pursue defence contracts that mandate this level of security.
