Japaul Gold's new processing plant begins test runs as shares surge 50%
Japaul Gold & Ventures Plc has begun test runs at its new gold processing plant in Libeli, Niger State. The move marks a major shift for the company after four years of exploration and regulatory approvals. Its shares have climbed 50% in just one month, reflecting strong investor confidence.
The company reported N4.4 billion in revenue for the 2025 financial year, with offshore operations driving most of the earnings. However, pre-tax profit fell to N1.1 billion due to rising administrative costs. Despite this, gold prices have surged, breaking the $5,000-per-ounce mark in late January 2026.
Japaul holds four gold mining leases across Taraba, Niger, and Osun states. The Libeli plant is expected to reach full capacity by May 2026, processing up to 210,000 ounces of gold monthly. The stock has gained 58.44% year-to-date, supported by strong buying interest.
Gold itself delivered over 60% returns in 2025, boosted by a weaker U.S. dollar and ongoing geopolitical tensions. The company's transition from exploration to active mining has positioned it well in a rising market.
The Libeli plant's full launch in May 2026 will test Japaul's ability to capitalise on high gold prices. With shares up sharply and production targets set, the company's next phase will focus on scaling operations. Investors are watching closely as the firm moves from exploration to full-scale mining.
