Jabalpur Medical University exposed for financial fraud and systemic failures in CAG audit
A recent CAG report has uncovered serious irregularities at Jabalpur Medical University. The audit reveals financial mismanagement, staff shortages, and a lack of basic academic structures. Suspicions of corruption and fraud have now surfaced due to these failings.
The university has operated for 12 years without establishing essential bodies like an academic council or examination committee. This absence has led to arbitrary decisions in key areas. Even now, no proper system exists for selecting examiners or moderators.
Financial issues run deep. The institution failed to collect Rs 98 crore in endowment funds and Rs 23 crore in GST from affiliation fees. It also did not present a valid balance sheet, raising further concerns about transparency. Annual accounts remain delayed, and no software has been implemented for managing examinations.
Staffing problems add to the crisis. Out of 275 approved positions, only 91 are filled. Critical roles—including rector, finance officer, and assistant registrar—remain vacant. Meanwhile, nursing colleges affiliated with the university have begun admissions without proper approvals. No inspections have been conducted to verify their compliance.
The CAG report highlights a broader pattern of neglect. There is no academic calendar in place, and basic administrative functions appear to be ignored. These lapses have left the university vulnerable to allegations of fraud and misconduct.
The findings point to systemic failures at Jabalpur Medical University. Without urgent reforms, financial losses and academic disruptions are likely to continue. The report's revelations now place pressure on authorities to address the gaps and restore accountability.
