Hünfeld's Locomotive Shed hosts fifth volunteer tax and networking evening
Hünfeld’s Locomotive Shed hosted its fifth volunteer information evening this week. The event brought together local organisations to discuss key updates on nonprofit work and tax rules. Attendees also had the chance to network over food and drinks at the end of the session. The evening began with a keynote lecture on 'Taxes in Associations'. Sandra Oechler, a qualified tax advisor, led the 90-minute talk. She stressed that nonprofit groups must follow their official purposes to keep tax benefits.
Oechler explained two main accounting areas for associations: ideological work and business activities. She noted that clubs only pay tax on commercial operations if their yearly income tops €50,000. The session also covered recent changes to financial allowances. Julia Schröder from Fulda district then introduced the Treffpunkt Aktiv initiative and local volunteer services. After the talks, participants enjoyed sausages, cold drinks, and informal discussions. New financial rules were also highlighted. From January 1, 2026, the volunteer exemption rises to €960 per year. The tax-free training instructor allowance increases to €3,300 annually.
The event provided clear updates on nonprofit accounting and tax changes. Organisations left with practical knowledge on compliance and financial allowances. The evening also strengthened local connections among volunteers and groups.
