Guinness Nigeria roars back to profit with ₦41.2bn turnaround in 2025

Guinness Nigeria Plc has turned its financial fortunes around after years of restructuring. The brewer returned to profitability in 2025, reporting a profit after tax of ₦41.2 billion—a major recovery from previous losses. Shareholders now see the first dividend payout in four years, marking a clear shift in the company’s performance.

The company’s revival followed a deliberate strategy centred on four key areas: strengthening internal culture, improving operational efficiency, prioritising consumer needs, and tightening financial controls. Under the leadership of Managing Director Girish Sharma, local teams gained more decision-making power, speeding up operations and cutting unnecessary delays.

Restructuring efforts also focused on expanding market reach and refining product offerings. New formats, such as the launch of Orijin Beer in PET bottles, aligned better with current consumer preferences. These changes, combined with a broader distribution network, helped drive a 144% surge in revenue to ₦730.8 billion. Financially, the brewer slashed costs and managed foreign exchange risks more effectively. Shareholders’ equity rebounded to ₦43.3 billion, while retained losses shrank sharply. The improved balance sheet allowed the company to declare an interim dividend of ₦2 per share for the first quarter of 2026. The turnaround was further supported by strong volume growth across its product lines. A significant drop in finance costs and tighter operational controls reinforced the recovery, setting a solid foundation for future growth.

Guinness Nigeria’s return to profit and dividend payments signals a successful restructuring. The company now aims to maintain its growth through continued efficiency, localised decision-making, and innovation tailored to consumers. With a stronger financial position and a clearer market strategy, the brewer looks to build on its recent gains in the coming year.
