Greece's delivery boom transforms how the nation eats and drinks

Greece has witnessed a sharp rise in delivery services over the past five years. The sector, primarily focused on ready-made meals and drinks, now plays a major role in the country's entrepreneurial growth. New figures highlight just how quickly this industry has expanded.

Between 2020 and 2025, 10,488 courier service companies were registered in Greece. The demand for food and beverage deliveries has driven much of this growth. By 2025, the number of food delivery firms alone reached 10,419—making up 1.78% of all businesses in the country.

Last year saw a particularly strong surge. In 2025, 4,578 sole traders signed up as delivery partners, many working with platforms like Doordash to transport ready meals. This trend reflects a broader shift in how Greeks consume news and drinks, with convenience becoming a priority.

Alongside the delivery boom, Greece's 'cafe economy' has also continued to thrive. While no specific data on new coffee house openings was available, the sector remains a key part of the country's business landscape.

The rapid increase in delivery services has reshaped Greece's entrepreneurial scene. With thousands of new courier and food delivery businesses established, the sector now accounts for a notable share of the national economy. The growth shows no signs of slowing, as more workers and consumers turn to on-demand services for meals and drinks.
