GoSwap secures funding to expand Morocco's electric scooter battery network

Moroccan startup GoSwap has secured its first round of funding from the Azur Innovation Fund. The investment will help expand its battery-swapping network across the country, starting with Marrakech. The company specialises in quick, automated battery exchanges for electric scooters and motorcycles. GoSwap currently operates 20 swap cabinets in Casablanca. These are located at CashPlus stores, Petrom, and Shell stations. Riders can replace a drained battery with a fully charged one in under 10 seconds.

The funding will allow the company to grow beyond Casablanca. Marrakech is the next confirmed city, with plans to enter other major urban areas. The expansion will also support new electric motorcycle models compatible with GoSwap's system. Hamza Slimani, the founder, wants to make electric mobility more affordable and accessible. Adnane Filali, managing partner at Azur Innovation Management, sees strong potential for the solution in African cities. The goal is to speed up the adoption of electric transport in North Africa.

The investment will help GoSwap roll out its technology to more locations. Faster battery swaps and wider compatibility could encourage more riders to switch to electric scooters. The expansion is expected to begin with Marrakech before reaching other key cities.
