GlobalPay's Smart Switch Forex Card targets cost-free global spending for Indian travellers

GlobalPay has launched the Smart Switch Forex Card, a new solution for international travellers. The card aims to simplify payments abroad as outbound trips from India continue to rise. Users can load funds in US dollars and spend in over 180 countries without high fees.

The Smart Switch card supports ATM withdrawals, online purchases, and contactless payments. Transactions can be tracked and reloaded through the GlobalPay app. Initially, the service will charge no forex markup on supported currencies, with only a small introductory fee.

The card starts with a single currency but can expand to a multi-currency wallet holding up to 30 options. These include major currencies like the euro, pound sterling, and Canadian dollar, as well as regional ones such as the Japanese yen and Indonesian rupiah. The move follows growing demand for flexible payment tools as Indian travellers increasingly visit foreign destinations. Similar products already exist in markets like the EU, USA, and Switzerland. Competitors such as amnis, bunq, and N26 offer multi-currency cards with low or zero forex fees. HSBC also provides global solutions for expats. Industry analysts expect outbound travel from India to exceed 50 million trips by 2030, driving further innovation in digital payments.

The Smart Switch Forex Card enters a competitive market focused on seamless international transactions. Its zero-markup offer and broad currency support aim to attract cost-conscious travellers. The product reflects a wider shift toward app-managed, multi-currency payment solutions.
