Gimv sharpens focus on four key sectors while backing Life Sciences innovation

Gimv has announced plans to refocus its investment strategy on key sectors while retaining its Life Sciences portfolio. The Belgian investment firm will now concentrate on four main platforms: Consumer, Healthcare, Smart Industries, and Sustainable Cities. Despite this shift, its existing Life Sciences holdings, including companies like Exciva, will remain under management.

The decision comes as Gimv co-leads a €51 million Series B funding round for Exciva, a company within its Life Sciences portfolio. Other investors in the round include EQT Life Sciences, Fountain Healthcare Partners, and LifeArc, among others.

Gimv's updated strategy places greater emphasis on what it calls Anchor Investments alongside its four core platforms. These areas are seen as offering the strongest growth potential, particularly in digital transformation. The firm believes these sectors will drive future value creation.

At the same time, Gimv will continue managing its Life Sciences portfolio, which currently includes 11 companies. Together, they account for roughly 5% of the firm's total portfolio value. While no specific names or rankings of these companies have been disclosed, Gimv has stated it will work closely with them and their syndicate investors to maximise returns.

The recent €51 million funding for Exciva highlights Gimv's ongoing involvement in Life Sciences. The investment round, co-led by Gimv, attracted participation from several high-profile backers, including EQT Life Sciences, Fountain Healthcare Partners, and Modi VC. This deal underscores the firm's commitment to supporting innovation within the sector, even as it adjusts its broader investment focus.

Gimv's strategic realignment means a sharper focus on digital growth opportunities in its four chosen platforms. The Life Sciences portfolio, though smaller in scale, will still be actively managed to enhance value. With recent investments like Exciva's Series B round, the firm remains engaged in the sector while prioritising its new direction.
