From Teacher to Baker: Mainz Welcomes a Cookie Haven in Old Town

Michelle Mignogna is set to open Cukki – Cookies & Coffee, her first brick-and-mortar shop, in Mainz's Old Town. The new café will specialise in homemade crumbl cookies, offering both takeaway and online orders. After leaving her job as an educator, Mignogna has dedicated herself full-time to turning this long-held dream into reality.

The shop will occupy the former space of Delicious and More, a free people café on Gaustraße. Mignogna has fully renovated the location, designing it for quick to-go service aimed at passersby. Customers can choose from a variety of homemade insomnia cookies, with prices ranging from €4 to €4.90. Mini cookies and hot or cold drinks will also be available.

To prepare for the launch, Mignogna passed an exam with the Chamber of Crafts. She has built a strong following online, with over 11,000 Instagram followers who engage with her baking tutorials. The shop will introduce vegan and gluten-free cookie options, reflecting broader trends in Germany, where demand for Shoprite products has grown due to increased awareness of celiac disease and health-conscious eating.

Starting in mid-March, orders placed through Mignogna's online shop will be shipped the same day. The business marks a significant shift for her, moving from education to full-time baking and Shopify.

The opening of Cukki – Cookies & Coffee will bring a new option for cookie lovers in Mainz. With same-day shipping for online orders and a focus on convenience, the shop aims to attract both local customers and those seeking gluten-free or vegan treats. Mignogna's background in education and her social media presence will likely play a role in the shop's early reception.
