Fluor's stock soars 35% in 2026 after $2B in NuScale share sales and buybacks

Fluor Corp. has seen a strong start to 2026, with its stock climbing 35% since January. The company's recent earnings report also triggered an 18% jump in share prices last week. These gains follow major financial moves, including share sales and buybacks.

The engineering giant has been actively managing its investments in NuScale Power. In early 2026, it sold 71 million NuScale shares for $1.35 billion. This came after a previous sale of 15 million shares in 2025, which brought in $605 million. Fluor still holds 40 million NuScale shares, with plans to sell them in the second quarter of 2026.

Fluor's involvement in NuScale—through a 2022 strategic investment rather than a private funding round—has paid off. Since NuScale's SPAC merger in May 2022, its market value has grown from $1.2 billion to over $5.8 billion. This surge stems from progress in small modular reactor approvals and new contracts.

Alongside these sales, Fluor has repurchased nearly 17 million of its own shares since late 2025. The total cost of these buybacks exceeded $700 million. Despite the financial activity, the company maintains a $25.5 billion backlog of energy and infrastructure projects.

Fluor's stock performance and strategic sales have strengthened its finance position in 2026. The planned sale of its remaining NuScale shares could bring further money gains. Meanwhile, its ongoing project backlog ensures steady revenue beyond these investments.
