FIS and Anthropic launch AI agent to combat financial crime in banking

FIS has teamed up with Anthropic to bring new automation tools to banks. The first product, an AI agent for financial crime detection, will launch with North American lenders BMO and Amalgamated Bank. The technology aims to speed up investigations and cut compliance costs. The Financial Crimes AI Agent will automatically collect evidence, monitor account activity, and highlight high-risk cases for human review. By using Anthropic’s Claude models for reasoning, the system keeps client data secure within FIS infrastructure.

Anthropic engineers are currently working with FIS to build the initial agent and train internal teams. Jonathan Pelosi, Head of Financial Services at Anthropic, noted that FIS provides the essential data needed for practical AI applications.

Stephanie Ferris, CEO and President of FIS, explained that banks are looking for AI that takes action rather than just offering support. The first deployments will begin with BMO and Amalgamated Bank, with wider availability planned for the second half of 2026. The new AI agent is designed to reduce the time spent reviewing suspicious transactions. Banks adopting the system could see faster anti-money laundering investigations and lower operational costs. The partnership marks a step toward more automated compliance processes in banking.
