EIB Restarts Türkiye Financing with $230 Million for Clean Energy and Efficiency Projects

EIB injects €800 million into Türkiye's green recovery and infrastructure

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed new financing agreements with Turkish institutions to support clean energy and infrastructure projects. The deals mark a renewed phase of cooperation between the EIB and Türkiye, focusing on green transformation and economic development. The EIB finalised two €100 million agreements with the Development and Investment Bank of Türkiye and Türkiye Eximbank. These funds will be on-lent to small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-cap companies. The financing targets renewable energy, energy efficiency, supply-chain resilience, energy security, climate adaptation, and green job creation.

Additionally, the EIB is supporting earthquake recovery in Türkiye with a €400 million operation. This will fund drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in affected regions. The bank will also provide €200 million in new lending to help Turkish companies cut emissions and improve energy performance.

EIB Vice-President Robert de Groot called the agreements a new phase of cooperation. EU Ambassador Designate to Türkiye Aivo Orav added that the partnership would turn shared priorities into tangible investments for people, businesses, and regions. Türk Eximbank CEO Ali Güney noted the financial backing would help exporters meet environmental standards in key markets.

The EIB delegation also met Turkish officials to explore further collaboration. Discussions covered sustainable transport, infrastructure, and private-sector support for cleaner business models. Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek welcomed the EIB’s return, stating the funds would drive sustainable growth and shared prosperity. The agreements will provide €200 million in new lending for Turkish businesses. They will also fund critical infrastructure and support green economic development. The EIB’s renewed engagement signals stronger financial ties between the EU and Türkiye.
