Del Taco's bold leadership shakeup aims to reverse years of decline before 2025 spin-off
Del Taco has appointed three new leaders to turn around its struggling business. The fast-food chain, owned by Jack in the Box since 2022, has faced falling sales, store closures, and franchisee troubles. The changes come as the company prepares for a planned spin-off by late 2025.
Ulyses Camacho will take on the role of chief transformation officer at Del Taco while keeping his current position as president and COO of Taco Cabana. With 30 years in the restaurant industry, he will focus on improving operations, financial results, and long-term growth. His appointment follows seven straight quarters of declining same-store sales and a drop in system-wide revenue from $1.1 billion in 2022 to under $1 billion by 2025.
The chain has also closed over 100 locations, partly due to franchisee bankruptcies and rising costs. Inflation, labour shortages, and competition from fast-casual rivals like Chipotle have added to the pressure. Jack in the Box's decision to spin off Del Taco by late 2025 reflects its $750 million debt burden and ongoing underperformance.
Noah Chillingworth joins as chief marketing officer, overseeing brand strategy, menu updates, and promotions. Ellen Sasada takes on the role of VP of supply chain, food safety, and quality assurance. Both will work to stabilise operations and rebuild customer trust.
Del Taco's leadership reshuffle aims to reverse years of decline before its planned separation from Jack in the Box. The new executives will tackle financial losses, store closures, and operational challenges. Their success will determine whether the chain can regain stability in a competitive market.
