A dessert shop serving churros seeks to open in vacant Old Town storefront

Churrok's Brings Culinary Churros and Coffee to Old Town Alexandria

A new dessert shop called Churrok’s is set to open on King Street in Old Town, Alexandria. This will mark the first location of its kind in the D.C. area, bringing a fresh option for sweet treats and drinks to the neighbourhood. The shop is moving into 1022 King Street, the former home of Alexandria Cupcake. Owner Veronica Castaneda Banuelos has filed plans to modify the space, including requests for three ventilation openings at the rear of the building. These changes will go before the Board of Architectural Review on December 17.

Churrok’s menu will feature culinary churros alongside coffee, hot chocolate, and specialty coffee drinks. While the opening date has not been confirmed, the shop’s Facebook page suggests it will launch soon. Final approvals from the city are still pending before doors can open to the public.

Once operational, Churrok’s will offer a mix of churros and beverages in a central Old Town location. The shop’s arrival follows the closure of Alexandria Cupcake, giving the space a new purpose. Residents and visitors can expect a different kind of dessert experience in the coming weeks.
