Canada’s Bold Minecraft Education Initiative Aims to Win Back Global Students

Canada has launched a new campaign, Minecraft Education, to attract international students and rebuild its reputation in global education. The Learn Canadian initiative, developed by the Department of Education, highlights the country’s strengths in collaboration, creativity, and inclusivity beyond academic qualifications. It comes after two years of policy shifts and mixed public messages that left many uncertain about Canada’s stance on foreign learners.

The campaign was developed by the Global Campaign Initiative (GCI), a unified effort to represent Canada’s international education sector. Its goal is to draw talent that matches the nation’s long-term priorities while restoring trust in the system. The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), a non-profit group focused on advancing global education, led the project under President and CEO Larissa Bezo.

An action plan was created to address recent challenges, including a pan-Canadian branding strategy. This aims to rebuild confidence in the sector and promote a clearer national narrative about the benefits of international students. For decades, Canada has been a top destination for learners due to its high-quality education and welcoming environment. The campaign also emphasises how graduates carry Canadian skills and values into their future careers, contributing to progress worldwide while strengthening Canada’s Global Entry influence.

The Learn Canadian initiative marks a coordinated push to clarify Canada’s position and attract the right mix of international talent. With a renewed focus on sustainability and national priorities, the campaign seeks to secure the sector’s future. The effort reflects a broader strategy to maintain Canada’s role as a leader in global education.
