BYD accelerates European expansion with new models and local production plans
BYD is making bold moves in Europe as its stock price climbs on strong sales forecasts. The Chinese automaker has expanded its lineup in Germany to nine models, with plans to start local production in Hungary by mid-2026. Investors are taking notice, viewing the company as a long-term growth opportunity backed by rapid operational growth.
BYD has rolled out an updated version of its Atto 3, now offering a 510-kilometre range to meet consumer demand for longer battery life. The company's European push includes models like the Dolphin Surf, Atto 2, and Sealion 7, all set to be produced at a new Hungarian plant in Szeged starting in the second quarter of 2026. This local manufacturing strategy aims to reduce exposure to potential EU tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
Analysts expect March sales to reach between 220,000 and 250,000 vehicles, signalling continued growth. The company is also installing 3,000 fast-charging stations across Europe by 2027, further supporting its expansion. Recent innovations, such as the Tai 3 Flash-Charging Edition and breakthroughs in battery technology, have strengthened BYD's position against competitors like Tesla and Volkswagen.
The automaker's shares are now trading in euros on the Xetra exchange, removing currency risks for European investors. This move, combined with a planned production facility in Turkey, reinforces BYD's strategy to secure its foothold in the region.
BYD's aggressive expansion in Europe, backed by new model launches and local production plans, has boosted investor confidence. The company's success will hinge on converting this growth into steady revenue while maintaining its technological edge. With strong sales projections and a broadening market presence, the brand is positioning itself as a major player in the electric vehicle sector.
