BPOL NRW: All-In gone and lost - Federal Police secures 59,000 Euros of unknown origin

Federal police officers in Aachen seized over €59,000 in cash from a 38-year-old German man on Tuesday following his entry into the country as part of a clearance procedure.

On Tuesday, officers from the Federal Police in Aachen stopped two German men, aged 38 and 40, who had entered Germany from the Netherlands via the A4 motorway.

During the routine check, it emerged that the 38-year-old did not possess a valid driver's license, as it had been confiscated following a court order. The passenger also failed to present any identification documents for border crossing, carrying only a German driving permit.

When questioned about whether they were carrying prohibited or declarable items, or cash exceeding €10,000, the two men provided conflicting statements.

A subsequent search of the vehicle and the individuals uncovered over €59,000 in cash. The men claimed they had won the money gambling. A drug wipe test conducted on both individuals returned positive results.

The case was referred to customs authorities, who determined that the money should be secured under a clearance procedure.

After completing all police measures, the men were released.

Due to their inconsistent accounts regarding the origin of the funds, the Joint Financial Investigation Unit of the police and customs at the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office (LKA NRW) is now conducting further investigations as part of the clearance process.
