Bison Bank Launches Euro and Dollar-Backed Stablecoins for Institutional Payments
Bison Bank has launched a new stablecoin designed for institutional cross-border payments. The move places the regulated financial institution among a growing number of banks entering the digital asset space under Europe’s strict crypto rules. The bank, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Bison Capital Holding Company Limited, introduced two tokens: the euro-backed EUB and the dollar-backed USB. Both operate as Electronic Money Tokens (EMTs) under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.
Unlike volatile cryptocurrencies, these EMTs maintain a stable value through full fiat reserves and regulatory supervision. Their structure also complies with the Basel Committee’s cryptoasset exposure standards, which take effect in January 2026. This launch follows Bison Bank’s earlier digital asset initiative, Bison Digital Assets, established in 2022 to offer crypto trading and custody services. The bank aims to act as a secure link between traditional finance and blockchain-based payments, providing faster settlement alternatives to conventional correspondent banking. MiCA’s introduction has sped up the adoption of tokenised money and regulated blockchain payment systems across Europe. Regulated stablecoins are now being positioned as a practical solution for treasury operations and near-instant transactions between institutions.
The new stablecoins expand Bison Bank’s role in digital finance while adhering to strict EU regulations. Their introduction reflects a broader industry shift toward blockchain-based payments for cross-border transactions. Institutions now have another regulated option for faster, compliant fund transfers.
