Bhopal doctor jailed for fake domicile certificate in MBBS admission scam

A Bhopal court has sentenced a doctor to three years in prison for using a fake domicile certificate. The conviction follows an investigation into fraudulent admission to an MBBS programme. The case was prosecuted under strict sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Dr Sunil Sonkar faced trial after the Special Task Force (STF) in Bhopal registered a case against him in 2020. The charges included cheating, forgery, and using a falsified doc as genuine. Authorities discovered that he had secured a seat in medical college using the counterfeit certificate.

The District and Sessions Court found him guilty under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), and 471 (using a forged doc). Alongside the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 500. This case mirrors a similar 2019 conviction, where Dr Abdul Rehman Khan received a three-year sentence for the same offence.

The verdict confirms the seriousness of doc fraud in professional admissions. Dr Sonkar's imprisonment and fine serve as a legal consequence for his actions. The ruling reinforces the court's stance on forgery-related crimes in educational institutions.
