Bangladesh's Rangpur region braces for a historic mango harvest boom

Farmers in Bangladesh's Rangpur region are preparing for a record mango harvest this season. With trees blooming early and in abundance, growers expect higher yields and increased profits. The region's famous Haribhanga variety, now a GI-certified product, remains in high demand abroad.

Around 7,000 hectares of land will be dedicated to mango farming this year. Farmers have planted popular varieties such as Mohanbhog, Gopalbhog, Lengra, Fazlee, Khirsapati, Amrapali, and BARI-4, alongside the prized Haribhanga. About 85% of the trees have already flowered, with 95% expected to bloom by early March.

The flowering season began on schedule, despite moderate winter temperatures and fog. Farmers report excellent budding, raising hopes for a bumper crop. Many anticipate net profits of Tk 15 to 18 lakh per orchard, far above previous years.

Rangpur's mangoes, especially Haribhanga, are exported widely to the Middle East and Europe. The UAE remains the largest buyer, accounting for over 40% of exports in 2025. Other key markets include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The strong harvest forecast comes as good news for Rangpur's mango industry. With high demand for premium varieties like Haribhanga, farmers are set to benefit from both domestic sales and international trade. The region's reputation as a top mango producer looks set to grow further this season.
