Ampersand Capital Partners Acquires Purna Pharmaceuticals in Strategic Life Sciences Deal
Ampersand Capital Partners has taken over Purna Pharmaceuticals, a specialist in liquid and semi-solid drug manufacturing. The deal marks a shift for the company, which had been backed by Creafund for over two decades. Leadership at both firms has highlighted the potential for growth and collaboration moving forward.
Purna Pharmaceuticals has built a strong reputation since its founding in 1986. The company has worked with many of the world's top 10 pharmaceutical firms, offering development and production services for complex drug formulations. For 23 years, Creafund supported its expansion before this latest acquisition.
Ampersand Capital Partners plans to bring more than just funding to the table. Hidde van Kerckoven, a principal at the firm, will offer strategic direction, fresh capital, and access to Ampersand's life sciences network. Achelous Partners advised Purna on the financial and investment aspects of the deal.
The takeover also opens doors for closer ties with MedPharm, another Ampersand portfolio company. Bill Humphries, CEO of MedPharm, sees the partnership as a chance to combine expertise and improve offerings for clients. Bart Peeters, Purna's CEO, believes the new investment will drive further innovation, better quality controls, and expanded production capacity.
The acquisition positions Purna for further development under Ampersand's guidance. While the company remains a niche player, the collaboration with MedPharm could broaden its capabilities. No immediate changes to global supply chains for major pharmaceutical firms have been announced as a result of the deal.
