American Express and dLocal team up to transform Latin America's payments landscape
dLocal has teamed up with American Express to streamline online payments across Latin America. The collaboration focuses on boosting approval rates and driving growth for direct-selling and retail brands in emerging markets. Both companies aim to tackle the challenges of low card usage in the region.
The partnership allows American Express to process payments more efficiently in local currencies. In Colombia, customers can now pay via local card networks, PSE bank transfers, and Efecty cash vouchers. These options help reduce friction for buyers who lack international credit cards.
Authorization rates have improved, while settlements happen faster and reporting becomes clearer. dLocal's platform also provides optimized pricing and on-the-ground support, all through a single system. Agustin Botta, Head of EMEA at dLocal, stressed that local payment infrastructure is essential for reliability in Latin America.
Carolina Vásquez, Customer Service Manager at American Express Latin America, highlighted the stability and usability of dLocal's payment gateway. The system has delivered consistent performance since implementation. Beyond Colombia, the companies plan to expand local payment acceptance to other markets in the region.
The deal strengthens American Express's ability to serve customers in regions with limited card access. Faster processing, better approval rates, and local payment options are now available. The partnership also sets the stage for further growth as more markets adopt the system.
