Applications for Thuringian Research Prize have started - 2024 Thuringian Research Prize opens nominations for groundbreaking science

Nominations are now open for the 2024 Thuringian Research Prize. The award, established in 1995, recognises outstanding scientific work across all academic fields. Researchers have until May 4 to submit their entries by email or post.

The prize honours achievements in two categories: Basic Research and Applied Research. Each year, a total of €50,000 is awarded to individuals or teams whose projects demonstrate excellence. Over the past three decades, more than 240 researchers have received the accolade.

Last year's winners included scientists from Jena University Hospital for their breakthroughs in leukemia treatment. Another award went to Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences for its work on a regional circular economy initiative. Researchers from the Max Planck Institute in Jena were also recognised for using AI to model global carbon and water cycles.

The 2024 award ceremony will take place on October 27. The prize remains open to all disciplines, from humanities and social sciences to engineering and natural sciences.

The Thuringian Research Prize continues to highlight innovation and discovery in the region. This year's winners will join a long list of distinguished researchers since the award's founding. Nominations close on May 4, with the ceremony set for late October.
